Contest Rules
All federal, state, local and municipal laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited.
Eligibility. The Perfect Pet Contest (the "Contest") is open to U.S. residents (excluding Puerto Rico), 13 years or older at the time of entry. Employees of The Herald-Dispatch; Champion Publishing; and each of their respective affiliated companies, subsidiaries, advertising or promotional agencies, and other agents are not eligible. Additionally, the immediate family members of, and anyone living with, said employees are not eligible.
Contest Dates. The Contest begins on March 5th, 2008 and ends at 11:59 p.m., May 11th, 2008.
To Enter. Submit a photo of your pet along with the required information and a requested $5 registration fee. The proceeds from the registration fees will go to local animal shelters. Entry forms will be available in The Herald-Dispatch March 5th thru March 26th, 2008, or can be picked up at The Herald-Dispatch business office during regular business hours, starting March 5th, 2008. Photos must be submitted by the pet owner(s), who must be 13 years or older. The pet owners name and phone numbers must be included with all entries. Only one photo per entry per pet. To enter more than one pet, a separate entry fee and form must accompany each photo. Each pet may be entered only once. Digital photos should be in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 200 dpi. Prints must be at least 3 inches on one side and no more than 10 inches and include pet owner's name, pet's name and phone numbers on a label on the back of the photo. Entries with incomplete or incorrect information will not be accepted. Poor quality photos of either type will not be accepted. Submitting this information, the photo and an entry form serves as a release for Sponsor and The Herald-Dispatch to use your pet's name and photo in The Herald-Dispatch and on www.herald-dispatch.com.All photos become property of The Herald-Dispatch and will not be returned. Copyrighted photos must be accompanied by a photographer's release. Copyrighted photos not submitted with a release will not be accepted. Photo of pet only, no humans in the picture, please!
Online entry: Enter online by visiting the Perfect Pet Contest registration page at www.heralddispatch.com. Complete the entry form, attach the photo, submit form of payment for registration, complete any other required fields, and then submit your photo by clicking on the "SUBMIT" button. Online submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m., March 26th, 2008. By entering, you agree to the terms of these rules.
Mail or in-person entry: To enter by mail or in person, complete an entry form available in The Herald-Dispatch during the registration period and at The Herald-Dispatch office located at 946 Fifth Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701. The entry form with the photo and entry fee can be mailed or delivered to The Herald-Dispatch Perfect Pet Contest, 946 Fifth Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701 or dropped off in the lobby Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All mailed entries must be received no later than mail delivery on March 26th, 2008. Only one picture per entry per stamped envelope will be accepted. Sponsor will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, postage due, misdirected or illegible entries or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or Sponsor. In the event of a dispute, all online entries will deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the email account from which they were sent. Any questions regarding the number of entries submitted or the owner of an email account shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, and Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest.
Voting Rules. Pictures will appear in The Herald-Dispatch and on www.herald-dispatch.com at the beginning on each round. Voting for your favorite pet: Round 1 begins on April 2nd, 2008, and ends at 11:59 p.m., April 13th, 2008. Round 2 voting (the top 50) begins on April 16th, 2008 and ends at 11:59 p.m. April 27th, 2008. Final Round voting (the top 10 finalists) begins on April 30th, 2008 and ends at 11:59 p.m., May 11th, 2008.
Voting is open to everyone with a price of 4 votes for $1.00. (Online voting minimum is $5.00). You can also place votes for the price of: 25 votes for $5.00, 60 votes for $10.00 and 125 votes for $20.00.
Voting ballots will be available in The Herald-Dispatch starting April 2nd, 2008, or can be picked up in the lobby during regular business hours.

Free vote: You may vote without making a donation to The Education outreach program by submitting an original ballot (by mail or in person only). One free vote allowed, per pet, per person, per day.
Prizes and odds: Odds on winning depends on number of entries received. Winners will be determined by total of votes cast at the The Herald-Dispatch and the herald-dispatch.com combined. Tally of voting starts over for each voting round. First place winner will receive $350 gift certificate from Petland, South Point, OH and Ashland, KY locations, and a Pet Portrait from Vickie Finlay ($200 value). Total value of 1st price: $550. Second place winner will receive a Gift Basket from Bert's Pet Center ($50 value), 3 nights lodging at Town House Kennels ($50 value), $50 gift card from Pet Mart and $25 gift card from Pets and Things. Total value of 2nd price: $175.00. Third place winner will receive $50 gift card from Ooh La La Boutique and Free Grooming at Pet Palace ($50 value). Total value of 3rd price: $100.00.
Winner notification and acceptance: Winners will be notified by phone on or about May 16th, 2008. Return of prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. Winners may waive their rights to receive prizes. Prizes are nonassignable and non transferable. No substitutions allowed, except that prizes and individual components of prize packages are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Winners are solely responsible for reporting and payment of taxes on prizes. Winners may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility and publicity release.
Sponsor: The Perfect Pet Contest is sponsored by The Herald-Dispatch's Education Outreach program, Petland, Vickie Finlay, Bert's Pet Center, Town House Kennels, Pet Mart, Pets and Things, Ooh La La Boutique and Pet Palace. The proceeds from the voting will go to the Education Outreach program to help fund newspapers in local schools and the proceeds from the registration will go to local animal shelters.
The decisions of Sponsor regarding all aspects of the contest shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these rules or in other materials relating to the contest.
