1971: The Young Thundering Herd sported a white helmet with a single green stripe, flanked on either side by black stripes. An angular MU logo was on the side with a cartoon buffalo galloping above. Photo archives show some helmets had little green horns on the front of the helmet (shown here.) "Microfit" helmets were available, which again allowed air to be pumped in for a custom fit. However, the old suspension helmets were widely preferred as they were lighter and provided better ventilation.
