Is "The forgotten" Being Forgotten By ABC?

It looks like “The forgotten” will soon be forgotten by ABC. It’s just a matter of when…

“The Hollywood Reporter” is reporting that the show will air its season finale Tuesday, March 16th at 10 p.m. But the ABC media site is still showing that the season finale will air the following Tuesday, March 23rd.

Either way, it’s wrapping up more than a few episodes earlier than it should be…

Moral of the story is you need to catch the show now while you can. It won’t be around much longer…

Tom Brokaw Looks at the Baby Boomers

This week, Tom Brokaw’s topic is baby boomers, the generation following “the greatest generation” that Tom has chronicled so eloquently over the years. And he’ll discuss that topic in the two-hour documentary, “Tom Brokaw Reports: Boomer$”

He’ll look at the life, the legacy and the future of those people born between 1946 and 1964 as he talks to President Bill Clinton, Tom Hanks and more.

"CSI: Miami": Zombie Brings Out the Best

When I heard that Rob Zombie (“Halloween,” “The Devil’s Rejects”) was directing last night’s episode of “CSI: Miami,” I expected blood and guts and downright crazy stuff. Zombie just doesn’t seem like someone who would mesh well with the cheesy goodness that is “Miami.”

But after those unbelievable first five minutes, I was a believer as Zombie interspersed a rape and murder with an old black and white horror movie playing in the background. It was a total fresh take on the usual TV murder. And when the motionless girl lying in blood suddenly opened her eyes, I jumped right off my couch.

And Zombie managed to do something I haven’t seen on the show all season. He nailed Horatio’s throwaway line scene right before the theme music fires (He didn’t put on his sunglasses, but it was still good.)

It was the best five minutes in “Miami” history. Hands down.

I was pleasantly surprised that Zombie nailed all of the "Miami" trademarks. I honestly think it was David Caruso’s best episode in a long time—maybe ever. Of course, it helped that he was surrounded by the best guest cast the show has ever seen, many of whom are Zombie regulars. Michael Madsen was actually funny as the murder suspect. William Forsythe was great as the skeptical police chief and Paul Blackthorne was fantastically sleazy even without his native British accent. And how can you possibly go wrong with Malcolm McDowell as a sleazy lawyer?

Since Zombie decided to actually show LA as opposed to making LA look like Miami, he needed a decent story to back him up and he actually got one. The resolution may have been a little too quick, but it still worked. Plus it was nice to see that Horatio-Delko chemistry in full effect. And Zombie made the most of his LA surroundings. His use of the Hollywood Bowl for a confrontation was especially good. Even Jonathan Togo got some much needed camera time as Ryan Wolfe.

Who knew that it would take a horror movie director to get the best out of this show?

Welcome Back Jay!

Since I have declared myself the quarterback of Team Leno, I felt it was my sworn duty to stay up last night and watch Jay’s return to late night.

And in all honesty, it felt like he never left…

Jay wisely kicked off the show with a taped spoof of “The Wizard of Oz” as he declared to Kevin, Ross and John that it was all a bad dream. And you can never go wrong with Betty White…

Then it was business as usual with the monologue as Jay took some shots at NBC, and even one at Letterman (It was a nice one, though.). Instead of his Monday night staple, Headlines, Jay went on a search for the perfect desk in a hilarious taped piece that invaded people’s living rooms. When the one family started taking pictures of themselves with Jay’s guest Randy Jackson in the background I almost started crying I was laughing so hard.

Jamie Foxx showed a little too much enthusiasm for Jay’s return, but he was still a great guest. And you couldn’t help but laugh when Foxx took over Jay’s interview with Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn.

I just wish I had an explanation for that hideous theme song. And I have never liked that announcer (The same one he used for “The Jay Leno Show.”). And “The Jay Leno Show” set didn’t get enough tweaks to satisfy me. But I guess since NBC spent all that money on it, they feel like they have to use it. But those are things I’m willing to put up with as long as Jay is back where he belongs.

Not surprisingly, Jay won the ratings last night handily over Letterman, but he did not top the ratings of Conan O’Brien’s debut on “The Tonight Show.” I would argue that Conan’s high ratings were due to the curiosity of seeing what we were going to get. With Jay, you know what you’re going to get. And what you get is something I’ve been missing for nearly a year…

Welcome back, Jay! I now happily return to my regularly scheduled bedtime…

Will Chad be "Dancing"?

Tonight, “Dancing With the Stars” will announce its cast during the season finale of “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love.”

There have been plenty of rumored contestants, including Kate Gosselin and Pamela Anderson. But there’s one rumor I’m hoping stays just that.

TMZ.com is reporting that Chad Ochocinco will be a contestant this season. Chad posted on his Facebook page that he is in LA. But he also posted, “Great people who follow me, don't believe rumors unless OCNN reports, OCNN NEWS- where the news is given n child please fashion.”

For those of you who don’t speak Chad, OCNN stands for Ochocinco News Network…

You guys know I’m a big Bengals fan. And despite his antics, I adore Chad. But “Dancing”? Chad has enough distractions in his life. He doesn’t need this one too.

It’s called football, Chad. Focus on it…

Pick of the Week: The CBS Monday Lineup Returns With a Vengeance

CBS’ Monday lineup has been taking a little break during the Olympics, but this week it comes back with a vengeance.

And that’s why it’s this week’s Pick…

My Pick of the Week is the one-two-three combo of “How I Met Your Mother,” “Two and a Half Men,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “CSI: Miami.”

The night kicks off with Carrie Underwood guest-starring on “Mother.” She plays Ted’s (Josh Radnor) latest flame, Tiffany. And when the gang suspects Tiffany is stringing Ted along, they each flash back to a time when they were in a similar relationship…

Then after the season premiere of “Rules of Engagement,” “Men” takes a major step in the Charlie-Chelsea storyline. When last we left things, Chelsea (Jennifer Taylor) called off her wedding to Charlie (Charlie Sheen) after they had a big blowup over Chelsea’s relationship with Brad (Steven Eckholdt, who also played Mark, the guy who helped break up Ross and Rachel on “Friends”). This week, Charlie makes an ill-advised trip to Las Vegas and does not come back alone. Stacy Keach and John Amos return as Chelsea’s father and Chelsea’s father’s boyfriend…

Then on “The Big Bang Theory,” Penny (Kaley Cuoco) lands Sheldon (Jim Parsons) in traffic court, which makes him miss meeting comics legend Stan Lee, who guests as himself. A guest appearance by Lee is always cool, but you know the highlight of this one is going to be Sheldon dealing with jail.

The night wraps up with a special episode of “Miami” directed by horror movie director, Rob Zombie. In the episode, Horatio and Delko (David Caruso and Adam Rodriguez) travel to LA to investigate a secret from Jesse’s (Eddie Cibrian) past.

"Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" Review: Huntington Stands Up for Itself

Over the past four years I’ve been doing this I have reviewed a lot of television shows. But there’s no doubt this review is different.

Why? Because this show features a place and people I know. The elementary school in an area of town where I used to work and do community service. The morning DJ with whom I went to college. The church where I used to sing. They’re all here.

I’m talking, of course, about “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.” Tonight I had the chance to view the premiere episode and since I know the question you’re all asking, I’m going to answer it straightaway.

No. Huntington is not portrayed badly. I had my doubts when I saw the promo that was released last month, but that was clearly just to try and sell some drama. I think the show does a pretty good job of explaining that our schools have to deal with national guidelines and regulations and that it isn’t just a local thing.

And in all honesty, Oliver is very complimentary of Huntington and its people throughout the entire hour—even when they give him a hard time.

When the hour opens, Oliver is trying to get his message out as to why he’s here. So he heads straight for a local radio station, 93.7 The Dawg, where he gets an earful from Rod Willis (of Rocky and Rod). It’s important to remember that this is a TV show, so there’s some dramatization going on here, and Willis plays it perfectly. But it gives the show a good place from which to start as Oliver goes about trying to change lives.

His first place to do that is Central City Elementary. Here is where we meet school cook Alice Gue, who quickly becomes the star of the show, and I mean that as a compliment. She makes sure that Oliver knows the rules and is always the first one to question his ideas and methods. But Gue never comes off badly because she’s just reacting the same way any of the rest of us would if someone came in off the street and started telling us how to do our jobs. I’m sure there’s dramatization going on here as well, but it never feels like it.

You can’t help but laugh at Oliver as he struggles to understand the USDA guidelines and menu choices. I’m not saying I don’t agree with him that there are healthier alternatives, but it’s just funny that he doesn’t quite get it. I especially got a kick out of his amazement over breakfast pizza, because I thought it looked pretty good.

Oliver finds a friend in Pastor Steve Willis of First Baptist Church of Kenova. Willis introduces Oliver to the Edwards Family and Oliver sets out to teach them how to cook and eat healthier. Again, it’s important to say that Oliver never places blame on anyone. He’s just trying to change bad habits.

But then, just before the end of the show, things go haywire for him. Just as he’s starting to feel good about things, his own words come back to bite him. I’m of course talking about the interview he gave that was printed on the front page of “The Herald-Dispatch” last year that angered residents because it painted them as “ignorant.” Oliver is devastated and even refers to the article as making his “life a bloody hell.” But it’s when he has to confront the staff at Central City Elementary that he really gets an earful. And in my opinion, this is when Huntington really shines as Gue and others stand up for their city and their community. Oliver can only listen and apologize, but no one cuts him any slack. I personally think it’s the best moment of the show.

When the hour ends, Oliver is reduced to tears as he faces his toughest task: figuring out how to plan a week’s school menu his way while still following the necessary guidelines and budgets. He knows it’s a task he hasn’t made any easier with his comments.

Now of course we all know it’s going to turn out alright by the time Rascal Flatts takes the Keith-Albee stage, but it certainly gets the show off to a dramatic start.

So now that I’ve said all that let me get back to normal with this review and do what I would normally do and tell you if the show is actually any good. Honestly, if it didn’t involve Huntington, I wouldn’t watch it because it’s just not my thing—which is not to say that it’s not worth watching. I was just bothered a little by the flow of the hour and quite frankly it’s Oliver who doesn’t always come off well. But I’d say it has real promise now that the initial setup is done.

I still have to question, however, ABC scheduling the show Fridays at 9 p.m. Friday nights are known to be a pretty low viewing time so I’m wondering what ABC’s strategy is with such an obviously family-oriented show. I can’t help but wonder if they’re not sure about it themselves. But that’s just my opinion.

I can’t wait to hear your opinions when the show debuts next month…

“Entertainment Weekly” is reporting that Jay Leno is bringing some high power guests to his couch when he returns to “The Tonight Show.”

Monday, March 1st, it’s Jamie Foxx, Lindsey Vonn and Brad Paisley. But Tuesday it’s Shaun White AND Sarah Palin. There are also reports that Adam Lambert might be a part of Tuesday’s show.

David Letterman’s nemesis, Sarah Palin? You gotta love that…

"Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" Review: Does One Voice Ruin "Two Earths"?

Right now, the idea of parallel worlds is in the forefront thanks to “Lost.” But DC Comics actually had the idea first with its Multiverse. And that idea is the subject of the latest DC Universe original animated movie.

Although based in comic lore. “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” is an original story written by Dwayne McDuffie. The Lex Luthor (Chris Noth) of an alternate Earth comes to our Earth to get help from the Justice League to defeat the Crime Syndicate, an evil version of the Justice League. The Syndicate plans to take over its Earth by constructing a nuclear weapon. The Justice League—minus Batman (William Baldwin)—goes to Luthor’s Earth to help and discover much more than they bargained for.

But don’t worry Batman fans, he doesn’t sit on the sidelines for long.

The problem with most of the DC Universe movies is that they try to squeeze so much familiar comic story into a movie that they sacrifice plot. But since this is an original story, it flows much better. The story isn’t completely flawless as the central villain’s motives are not entirely clear. But it’s still fairly solid.

The biggest problem is one of the voices—the key voice of Batman. Now granted, I have a problem hearing anyone other than Kevin Conroy as Batman, but William Baldwin just doesn’t work for me at all. In fact, I almost think that Noth would’ve done a better job in the role.

But all of the rest of the voices are solid, especially James Woods as Owlman and Gina Torres as his girlfriend, Superwoman. I had my doubts about Mark Harmon as Superman because of his older sounding voice, but he works well.

There is lots of action in the movie and some romance too. But it is still rated PG-13, although not nearly as violent as some of the other DC movies,.

Also included on the disc is the animated DC short, “The Spectre.” I could stand to see a full feature with this character—especially if he continues to be voiced by Gary Cole, who is absolutely brilliant. If not so good as The Spectre, I believe he would have been excellent as Batman.

And speaking of Batman, we also get a sneak preview of the next DC Universe movie, “Batman: Under the Red Hood,” which is scheduled for release this summer. Although I was disappointed to hear that Batman is once again not being played by Kevin Conroy (Bruce Greenwood will do the honors.), that disappointment was quickly replaced by the news that Neil Patrick Harris is playing Nightwing. Jensen Ackles (“Supernatural”) will play Red Hood.

The highlight of the two-disc special edition is usually the accompanying documentary that sheds some light on the movie’s story. But this documentary on the various “Crisis” storylines does not impart any real information—maybe because DC can’t explain all those stories either.

The highlight of the special edition is the bonus “Justice League” episodes, “A Better World” Parts 1 & 2. The story in these episodes is actually a little better than the story in the movie and hearing Kevin Conroy argue with himself will show just how weak Baldwin really is. The episodes have one glaring story problem, but the rest of it is so good you’re willing to overlook it.

If you’re a fan of the Justice League, “Crisis” is a must-see if only to watch them all kick some you-know-what…

Pick of the Week: A Fave Feels the "Burn"

I must confess that I’ve never seen a single episode of “Burn Notice,” even though it’s one of the hottest shows on cable.

But when one of my favorite actors guests on it, I have no choice but to make it my Pick…

My Pick of the Week is “Burn Notice.”

The actor I’m talking about is none other than Carlos Bernard who I miss dearly as Tony on “24.” He’s playing an Argentine businessman who hires Fiona (Gabriele Anwar) to assist him with a kidnapping scheme. And it’s possible sparks will fly.

“Burn Notice” airs Thursday, February 25th at 10 p.m. on USA…

History Channel Investigates the Mothman

If you missed it last week, you have another chance tonight to watch the History Channel’s look at the Mothman…

History is scheduled to re-air the episode of “MonsterQuest” tonight (Wednesday, February 17th) at 8.

Here’s the description from the channel’s website:

“In 1967, a giant winged monster reportedly terrorized the skies over a small town in West Virginia, ending in a tragic bridge collapse that claimed forty-six lives. Since then the Mothman, as the beast was known, has become an omen of doom and death. With new sightings across America today, this creature may be returning. In a search for answers, MonsterQuest will use night time surveillance, perception tests and forensic sketching to determine if the beast is myth or frightening reality.”

The episode is scheduled to air again at midnight…

Is Jay Losing His Right Hand Man?

Okay. This is not good news for Team Leno…

MSN is reporting that Kevin Eubanks may be leaving as the bandleader of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” to pursue recording and touring.

I love Kevin so I want nothing but the best for him, but I can’t imagine “The Tonight Show” without him. He is the perfect comic foil for Jay.

NBC says that he will be back with “Tonight” returns March 1st, but it’s unknown how long he’ll be staying.

I’m hoping that something can be worked out so that Kevin can just take a leave of absence, a la Max Weinberg with Conan, instead of leaving permanently…

Pick of the Week: Trying to Be Helpful Once Again UPDATED

Last week, I lamented the fact that “Human Target” may be in trouble after it dropped considerably when it moved to its new timeslot.

Well wouldn’t you know that the ratings for the last episode actually went up, signaling the show might actually be steadying. I’d like to think my post had a little something to do with it.

So I figured since I was such a help last week, I’d give it another try this week…

My Pick of the Week is “Human Target.”

This week, Chance (Mark Valley) must protect a computer genius played by Kevin Weisman of “Alias.” As if that wasn’t cool enough, Autumn Reeser (“The O.C.”) is also guesting.

If you haven’t checked this one out, now would be an excellent time to do so, especially since it will soon be going on an "American Idol" induced hiatus...

Valentine's Day Advice From "The Millionaire Matchmaker"

In today’s “Herald-Dispatch” you can read my interview with Patti Stanger, the star of “The Millionaire Matchmaker.”

I have to say that Patti was one of the most entertaining interviews I’ve ever done. I laughed the entire time.

In fact, there was much of what she had to say that I had to leave out because it wasn’t appropriate for a family newspaper (or blog). Let’s just say that Patti is as blunt one-on-one as she is on the show.

I should also say that it was one of the most difficult interviews I’ve ever done because Patti called me in the middle of an LA hailstorm. It was so loud we could barely hear each other.

Remember that “The Millionaire Matchmaker” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo…

Is "Target" A Target Itself?

I almost hesitate to say this because as soon as I do, it’s going to get cancelled. But I am hooked on “Human Target.”

I knew that Mark Valley was awesome, but Jackie Earle Haley as the mysterious Guerrero really sets this show apart. And the always solid Chi McBride provides great support.

But unfortunately, the show needs just a few more people to exhibit my same enthusiasm or the target may be the show itself…

Last week, “Target” premiered in its new Wednesday at 8 p.m. timeslot. And without the protection of an “American Idol” lead-in, the show’s ratings fell 25 percent. Even those of you who don’t follow ratings can tell that’s not good…

Which leads me to an important question. Why did FOX switch “Idol” and “Target” to begin with? You can argue that FOX wants to more strongly compete with ABC’s “Modern Family”/”Cougar Town” lineup, but since “Target” was already beating them, I don’t think it’s a very good argument. I know there had to be confusion last week about the switch, and there will be even more confusion when “Idol” goes back to 8 p.m. for the performance shows later this month. Why not just leave things the way they were and give “Target” the chance to grow after “Idol” like “24” and “House” before it?

I would really hate to have to say goodbye to the only new show that has hooked me strongly enough to make me watch every week…

Is "24" Finally Headed to the Big Screen?

The long-talked about “24” movie may finally be closer to reality…

“Variety” reported today that Billy Ray (“State of Play,” “Flightplan”) has been hired by 20th Century Fox to write the screenplay.

Ray’s script would send Jack Bauer to Europe. The report says the script “came through” Kiefer Sutherland. I’m not really sure what that means, but it scares me a little because if you’ve seen any of Kiefer’s recent movies you know he has trouble finding a good script…

One of the biggest factors involved in how the movie progresses is the show itself. FOX (the television part of the company) has not made a decision on whether or not this season is the last, but people are starting to believe that it will be. The end of the TV show could pave the way for the movie.

You guys know how much I love “24,” but I truly believe it’s run its course. It’s time to pull the plug and send Jack Bauer to the big screen where we can see him throw knives into people’s throats on a much larger scale…

A Goodbye That Still Deserves to Be Seen

Tonight, we will say goodbye to one of TV’s most spectacular failures, “The Jay Leno Show.”

But if you are in the Huntington-Charleston area, you won’t even see it at all (unless you watch it/DVR it at 3 a.m. Wednesday) as WSAZ is preempting it for local programming.

I understand WSAZ’s enthusiasm for its latest cycle of “Tri-State’s Biggest Loser,” but as one of the captains of Team Leno, I would be remiss if I didn’t say I think this is wrong. It’s the last show, kids. Throw the guy a bone…

Reports are that it will be a quiet goodbye tonight as Jay does not plan any fanfare. But even still I think we all deserve the right to see it at its regularly scheduled time.

Thank goodness I have another NBC option…
