"Grey's Anatomy": Izzie in a Tizzy

Sorry, I couldn't resist the corny headline...

Warning: The remainder of this post contains details about last night's episode of "Grey's Anatomy"...

So, Izzie and George actually did it. And neither one of them is handling it very well, as it seems like Izzie may care more about George than even she knew.

Which leads me to a question. Does Izzie just turn feelings on and off like a light switch? Didn't Denny, the great love of her life, just die? And now that I think about it, didn't she fall head over heels for him a little too quickly as well?

Thoughts?

"Grey's Fans": Change Your Schedules--Updated

Last week, I said that Thursday's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" was a rerun because that is what "TV Guide" had listed.

However, tonight, while watching "Boston Legal," I see that Thursday's episode is indeed a new one.

"Grey's" airs Thursday at 9 p.m. on ABC...

Update: As I suspected, ABC made the change to try and sustain the momentum of "October Road" (which I will have a review of later tonight). But since they didn't make the announcement until late Monday night, I'm sure there are some fans out there who are in the dark, so be sure to spread the word!

"Grey's Anatomy": Things that make you go hmm...

So, two friends end up in bed together (though we don't know whether anything happened), and the race for chief just got a little more interesting...

Plus, the fabulous Shohreh Aghdashloo as a former colleague of McDreamy's!

Next week is a re-run though. So why a new one this week in the middle of March? My theory is that they wanted to give a strong lead-in to "October Road."

"Grey's Anatomy": More Drama Behind-the-Scenes?

Since “Grey’s Anatomy” was a rerun again tonight, let me give you the latest news on the action behind-the-scenes…

Tim Daly has signed on to be a part of the spin-off featuring Addison. The wonderful Paul Adelstein, who is currently playing Kellerman on “Prison Break,” is also scheduled to appear in the two-hour “Grey’s” episode that will serve as the show’s pilot.

I love Tim Daly, but as big of a show killer as he’s been lately (“The Fugitive,” “Eyes,” “The Nine”), I’m not sure that’s good news for the spin-off’s prospects…

Which is bad news for Kate Walsh, because I’m betting by this point she really wants away from “Grey’s.” Rumor has it that some members of the cast have been giving Walsh the cold shoulder since the spin-off was announced. Apparently a few of them feel that their characters should have been considered. Those same rumors say that Ellen Pompeo (Meredith) was most upset because no one told her about the spin-off before the announcement. She reportedly felt that as “the star,” she deserved to be consulted.

Could these people just get a grip already?

"Grey's Anatomy": The Spin-Off and Contract Talks

Since “Grey’s Anatomy” was a re-run last night, I figured I’d take this opportunity to address some rumors about the show…

You may have heard something this week about Katherine Heigl (Izzie) leaving the show. It’s not true but that doesn’t mean there are not problems. “People” reported that Heigl broke off contract talks with the show because they weren’t offering her as much money as some of her costars. A “well-placed source” said she was disappointed that ABC “doesn't value her as much as her other costars, especially Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington.” Gossip abounded that this was payback for her comments during the Isaiah Washington fiasco. That made ABC issue a statement that they had a long-term contract with Heigl that would keep her around for “several years to come.” ABC said they were only trying to renegotiate to give her a higher salary and they were surprised about the negative coverage of it in the press.

Yesterday, Heigl issued her own statement that confirmed she walked away from the renegotiation to “treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them.” She also said she was disappointed that ABC decided to make the negotiation public (like we’re supposed to believe the “People” source wasn’t any of her people). Heigl does say she is still committed to the character she loves to play…

With all the behind-the-scenes drama, Kate Walsh is probably thrilled about the plans for her to star in a “Grey’s” spin-off, so she can get out of there.

The spin-off’s pilot will be a two-hour episode of “Grey’s” that will air in May. Taye Diggs has already signed on to co-star in the show that would take Walsh’s Dr. Addison Montgomery to another city.

“Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes, who is behind the pilot, says it was the right time to do a spin-off because she needed the space on “Grey’s” to make room for all of the characters.

There is no guarantee that ABC will pick up the show, but it’s pretty likely. However, if they do not, Kate Walsh has a clause in her contract that will allow her to return to “Grey’s.”

I’ve often said that when a show’s creator has his or her attention divided, it’s the beginning of the end for the show. That could be the case for “Grey’s”—if the behind-the-scenes strife doesn’t kill it first…

Stay tuned…

"Grey's Anatomy": Whatever...

So, I taped last night’s “Grey’s Anatomy” so I could see how the big crisis got resolved. And after I was done eulogizing “The O.C.,” I spent the next hour watching it.

And maybe it was because I had just seen one of the best series finales ever, or maybe it was because I’m not a regular viewer, but for me the word that kept popping into my head throughout the entire episode was…whatever.

Now before all of you “Grey’s” fans go Jack Bauer on me, let me say that I know “Grey’s” can be an excellent show—I’ve seen good episodes. But for me, this wasn’t one of them…

Warning: The remainder of this post contains details about last night’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Usually, when a character has an out-of-body experience, someone on the other side convinces them to go back because there’s something left for them to accomplish. But Denny’s main argument for Meredith (although he touched briefly on losing loved ones) was that it would be too hard for the others. What?! A woman contemplates suicide and your argument is that it would be too hard on her friends?

And speaking of suicide, since I’m not a regular viewer of the show I’m hoping there are other details about Meredith’s life that would make this more plausible, because wanting to end your life because your mother called you ordinary just doesn’t work for me.

And was it actually necessary to kill Meredith’s mother in order to make things right? They couldn’t have done that among the living?

I applaud the show for trying to do something different with a tried-and-true plot device, but I think they wasted too much time with Meredith being oblivious and the weird interludes with Bonnie bleeding out (?!).

And after all that “suspense” to see if Meredith made it, the ending seemed somewhat anticlimactic. Maybe that was just me.

If “Grey’s” is not careful, it could fall into the pit of “ER” with its “very special” crisis-of the-week episodes. The show is at its best when the characters are interacting with each other—Callie and Izzy fighting it out, George trying to deal with Izzy, Christina showing off her 99 cent wares to the bartender—not when they’re roaming around empty hallways dead…

"Grey's": Part Two of Three

So does anyone have any thoughts on last night's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" that they would like to share?

And for the record, I don't think they're going to kill Meredith, seeing as how she's Meredith Grey and the show is called "Grey's Anatomy," but stranger things have happened...

"Grey's": Part One of Three

You know it's sweeps when Shonda Rhimes cranks out a three-part episode of "Grey's Anatomy," which from what I understand, was pretty intense.

Any thoughts?

"Grey's" Discussion, anyone?

No, I did not watch "Grey's Anatomy" last night--not with "The O.C." still on the air--but I wanted to give all of you who did a chance to talk about the episode.

Any thoughts?
