Star Trek tv series ranked
As long as we're ranking Star Trek movies, let's rank the six -- yes, six -- Star Trek tv series.
1. Star Trek. The original. The best. The one with the most creativity. Preachy at times. Cheesy special effects were the best the 60s could offer. Reached its creative peak in its second season. By the middle of the third season, most of the creative talent had left, and plots were very weak. But at its best, it was the best.
2. Star Trek: The Next Generation. First couple of seasons were very dull at times and too self-conscious of being the successor of the Trek mantle. Third through fifth seasons were best. Seasons six and seven began to lose some of the edge. Gave us the best ever villians in the Borg.
3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Darker, moodier but oftentimes had storylines that you just didn't care about. Quark was one of my all-time favorite non-hewmon characters.
4. Star Trek Enterprise. Third season stretched the Xindi thing out way too long. Plus it was too much into time travel -- something that must be done sparingly if at all.
5. Star Trek, the Animated Series. This was a Saturday morning cartoon series between the end of the original series and the first movie. Featured some voice talent from the original series. I don't remember much about it except the animation was so-so even for that time. I've read some plot synopses, which seemed to be okay for a cartoon series.
6. Star Trek: Voyager. Could have been better. When I missed something important, I didn't care all that much. That was the problem with this series. You just didn't care. And I couldn't get into it.
