Star Trek movies, my ranking

With the new Star Trek movie coming out and everyone ranking the movies so far, I might as well get in on the action. I loved the original when it aired in prime time (yes, I'm that old). I interviewed Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and allowed him to buy me two drinks (Coca Colas) and I got his autograph.

So here are the movies as I rank them:

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. When I had a working VCR, I could watch this one over and over because of its heart and its wit.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Best villian. True to the series. Beautiful death scene and funeral at the end.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Underrated by many.
Star Trek: First Contact. Best of the NextGen movies, but that's a low bar to jump over. I didn't like how they got rid of the Borg hive concept by introducing the queen Borg. Performances by James Cromwell and Alfre Woodard saved it.

Not worth ranking because they were so bad. In chronological order:

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Beautiful visuals, but otherwise booooooooring. And I hated those pastel uniforms.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Made during a writer's strike. Used a plot that was rejected for the first movie. Interesting only because it is so bad bad.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The plot had so many holes and errors in logic, I can't see why people rate it so high. And there were lots of continuity errors between it and the first two series.

Star Trek Generations. Extended TV episode.

Star Trek Insurrection. The first Trek movie that I didn't see twice. I don't know if it's even been on a cable channel. The forgotten movie and rightfully so because it's by far the worst.

Star Trek Nemesis. Ridiculous premise, bad acting all around, errors in logic and science ... I've seen it a couple of times on TV and it gets worse every time. If not for Insurrection, it would be at the bottom of the list.

I'm glad the NextGen TV people are no longer in charge of the movies. We'll have to see what happens with the new movie. I'm not reading anything about it. That way I don't have to worry about spoilers.

So look for me at a theater near you this weekend.
