Culture shock
From the tail end of a story in today's paper.
Popular colleges for Cabell Midland grads included Marshall, WVU, Ohio University and the University of Kentucky. Several students ... are weighing their options for colleges out of state.
I don't know about today, but up until about 10 years ago, a lot of kids from this area enrolled at places like Ohio U. and Ohio State but decided schools like that weren't for them. It was too much of a culture shock. I noticed this was particularly true among kids from smaller communities.
With the way kids are more connected today, maybe there's not such a culture shock.
Some day we might see a study on where our local high school graduates started college and where they ended, and why some of them tranferred.
