People Who Drop Animals Are Cowards!

Today, Chance and I headed down to our local Dollar General store on Rt. 2, in Lesage, WV. As we pulled in, I saw a small kitten running around the front of the store. Every time the door opened, it tried its best to get in. As one lady started in, the kitten ran in, between her feet, and ended up getting kicked, on accident, into the store. The cashier, gently, put it back outside.

To the coward that dropped that poor little baby kitten; shame on you. You don't have any sense of humanity, none at all. If someone doesn't pick up that kitten, it will get hit on the road. Look, even taking it to the pound is better than just dropping it off, "hoping" someone will pick it up. You are a coward!!

To all people that drop animals, SHAME ON YOU, YOU COWARDS!! I hope that someone picks up that poor baby kitten. Pray that someone does.

Shelties Rescued From Certain Death.

It is great to see the Herald Dispatch finally putting stories of animal abuse and neglect in their publications. It has been a long time coming. I was on the Editorial Board for one session and had brought that up. But, as I understood the reasoning, there were more pressing issues at the time that needed the attention of the paper.

The five Shetland Sheepdogs, (Shelties), that were rescued Tues. morning in Huntington, WV were living in deplorable conditions. And, a concerned citizen is the only reason they are not still living and dying in that mess. But, this is just one of a hundred, or possibly a thousand, cases that need the attention of our shelter. I am disappointed in the Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter, really. I have called and called on many occasions and get the same line. "We will send someone out, and thank you for caring about the animals."

And, about not pressing charges against the woman that owned the property, I understand. If charges were filed, the animals would have to be kept at the shelter as evidence and could not be placed into loving homes, or foster homes. I think they are doing the right thing.

Help Change The Abuse Laws In Your State!

Well, it seems that the cruelty will never end. The man in Proctorville that had the Golden Retriever tied to a tree with a chain plead no contest to animal cruelty and neglect. The chain had bit into the dogs neck so severely that it had to be surgically removed because the skin had grown over the chain.

This crime is only a misdemeanor. The laws have to be changed to make this type of cruelty a felony. The judge is holding off sentencing to see what the vet bill will be so the abuser will have to pay restitution. The poor dog is at least safe and recuperating at Animal Friends Vet Clinic in Teays Valley, WV.

Please contact your state Representatives and let them know that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in your state and that abusers should be charged with felony animal cruelty and felony animal neglect.

Marines Show Kindness to 2 Wk. Old Puppies.

7 mix breed puppies arrived in San Diego on March 7, 08. They had been taken care of by a group of Camp Pendleton Marines in Iraq since they were 2 wks. old. The Marines built a dog house for them and kept them alive. They are now 14 wks. old and healthy. They were brought over here by the help of the Encinitas based Humane Society.

Each pup has already been spoken for by the Marines, who are part of a team training Iraqis to protect their country's borders. The pups will be temporarily housed at the Humane Society until the Marines return to Camp Pendleton.

Foreclosure And Your Pets.

In this uncertain time in our country, many people are having their houses go into foreclosure. When this happens, it not only affects the humans, but any pets they might have. If you find yourself in this situation, please don't just abandon your pets, as some do. Many are just abandoning their animals because they are so frustrated and just walk away from it all. There are many rescue organizations that will be glad to help you and take your pets and place them with good homes. From the smallest to the largest, i.e. birds to horses, there is an organization that will help you. Remember, an animal has feelings too and deserves the right to live a happy, healthy life.
