Stacee Lawson

Saturday night I ran into two friends I hadn't seen in a while, singer-songwriter Jeff Ellis and
X106.3's Brandon Woolum. Ellis' friend Stacee Lawson sung the soundtrack of that reunion at the V Club with backing rockers Hydrogyn.

Stacee Lawson's songs--a sort of heavy Avril Lavigne, in your face super-punk--made the reunion quite strange and out of place. Ellis is a soft voiced balladeer with a knack for emotion minus the preaching. Woolum hosts a show on a hard rock station.

While Hydrogyn may come from a harder rock scene (I really don't know), Lawson is quite the pop-punker. She is dramatic and emphatic on stage and though it may have taken her a while to warm up, she eventually kicked it up and really engaged the crowd.

I can't say it's my favorite genre of music, but I must concede that it is very well done. With a new album out in stores now, Lawson is making a pretty big splash on the scene. Here is a quick list of do's and don't's for Stacee:

DO
Be excited
DON'T
Take so long to get excited
DO
Get me pumped about recording your new DVD
DON'T
Make me listen to the same song five times in a row to record a music video (bummer)
DO
Smile and generally be cute on stage
DON'T
Listen to me
