Hey, I just got a boatload of pictures from my friend Jerry McEwen, a Birmingham, Ala. resident who was an extra on the Atlanta "We Are Marshall" set. I'm going to break these up into a few different posts, but here's No. 1.

The Post About Boogercats

OK, this isn't exactly movie related, but I had to share it with you. This is from the MU Athletics site.

"Huntington Advertiser sportswriter Dug Freutel in 1933 started referring to Marshall teams as the Boogercats (referring to Scotland's Bogie Cats, a "fleet, elusive, courageous" animal) and some other scribes followed in using that nickname. Freutel complained that Thundering Herd made one think of "cows stampeding down a country road," but many people thought Boogercats stirred up worse images than that.

The Boogercat controversy sparked the Marshall alumni association to hold a special meeting, in which a vote was taken to refer to the school teams as the Thundering Herd for the time being - but that a study should be undertaken to find a mascot that had a connection with the school or West Virginia.

Despite Freutel's attempts to keep Boogercat alive for the next couple of years, Thundering Herd and Big Green remained the commonly used nicknames."

This raises some important questions.

1. Do you know what I would do to be involved in something called the Boogercat controversy?

2. Can you imagine what this might have meant for the recent movie?

LENGYEL: "Listen boys, you're Boogercats, and I want to see you out there playing like Boogercats!"

3. "WE ARE ... BOOGERCATS!"

4. I know number three wasn't a question. But I couldn't pass it up.

How low will I go to bring you Marshall movie news?

This low.

That's right. You can buy a "We Are Marshall" bench on eBay. Try to contain your unbridled enthusiasm.

Oh, I should add that I have no idea if it's authentic or not, but, I mean, it's a bench. A wooden bench ... not exactly ruby slippers. I wouldn't be surprised if Planet Hollywood lets that gem of movie memorabilia slip through it's fingers.

In case you were curious, He-Who's-Name-Shall-Not-Be-Spelled-Correctly is pairing up with his old pal Kate Hudson for another film.

The story revolves around a husband and wife who have spent eight years searching for a lost treasure and are on the brink of bankruptcy and divorce when a clue to the payday surfaces, forcing the couple to reunite to find their fortune.The script was written by Kenneth Lonergan from an original screenplay by John Claflin and Daniel Zelman.Wink Mordaunt is serving as exec producer.

McConaughey, repped by CAA and J.K. Livin', recently wrapped shooting the feature "We Are Marshall."The duo's pairing on "How to Lose a Guy" grossed $105.8 at the domestic boxoffice.

The Post about the Extra Story

Ahoy!

If you're a frequent watcher of Extra! you may have seen this story that basically re-edits some of the featurette footage. Honestly, the only real addition is "reporter" Carlos Diaz talking with a lot of enthusiasm. Which, if that's your thing, feel free to click away. Be warned though, it's pretty slow loading.

I tell you, this featurette really opened the floodgates. With the national coverage and the apple.com thing, the movie's hype is just going to keep growing.

OK, it's official. I just talked to a Warner Bros. publicist who said that Dec. 22 is the new date. Thoughts, feelings?

Hey gang. There' s all sorts of reports that the movie's release date has been bumped back to Dec. 22. While this may not be good news for people eager to see the movie, it might be better in terms of box office dollars.

I'm going to keep looking into it, see if I can get someone from Warner Bros. on the phone. Keep an eye on herald-dispatch.com, I'll post there soon as I have something concrete.

Hey, my name is Justin McElroy, and I'll be the captain of this particular ship now. I'm the Marshall beat reporter at the Herald-Dispatch, so the duty falls to me.

Yikes, look at that picture, huh? I don't normally laugh, and I don't often look like a huge goober, so it's dishonest on a couple of levels. Honestly, if a picture doesn't feature my massive biceps, you really don't get the full experience.

So things have been slow on the movie front lately, I know. I'm trying to track down someone working on the movie who can fill me in on its status, so hopefully I can let you know something soon.

Regardless, the first glimpse we may have is the trailer, which I'm pretty excited to see. How about you, what are your hopes for the trailer?
