A movie about Marshall?
Is it really true? Are Hollywood filmmakers really coming to Huntington to make a movie about the 1970 Marshall plane crash and its aftermath?
That was my reaction when news of the project broke in late January. We had heard the rumors, of course — the murmurs that a movie was in the works. Receiving official confirmation made it seem more concrete, yet still surreal.
Several stories later, it still feels a bit unreal. Meeting director McG and producers from Warner Bros. Pictures, however, on March 1 at Marshall slammed it home. Yes, Hollywood, including “the Matthews” (actors McConaughey and Fox), are coming to town.
Now we can only wait until April 3 when production is scheduled to begin in Huntington. The size and scope of the project will “blow the socks off people,” predicts Pam Haynes, director of the West Virginia Film Office.
Yeah, it’s going to be an exciting ride. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you and am excited about all of yours, as well.
Keep those star sightings coming!
