Are Randy and Paula Gone?

Will there be different people sitting at the judge’s table next season?...

The “National Enquirer” is reporting that both Randy and Paula will be gone next season and replaced with “younger faces” in response to “Idol”s slipping ratings. The “Enquirer” also reports that the show will get format changes and a whole new set.

So who do the producers want as a judge? The “Enquirer” reports that Britney Spears is at the top of their wish list.

I don’t believe for a moment that Randy and Paula will be gone next season (even though Randy was pretty much worthless this year), but I do hope the show is seriously considering some changes to reinvigorate the franchise…

Paula Takes on the Rumors

In this week’s “TV Guide” (on newsstands now), Paula Abdul confronts the rumors that have been dogging her these past couple of seasons.

Here are some of the highlights…

Paula thinks this is her best season so far (I totally agree.). She said she notices the bad performances, she just doesn’t say mean things because she’s the only judge that knows what it’s like to be a solo artist…

She knows the contestants are crushed when she gives a negative comment…

She denies there was a mutual attraction between her and Simon in the beginning (He says there was.). Now she says he’s “become a really good friend.” She hangs out with Simon and his girlfriend, Terri Seymour…

Paula believes Jennifer Hudson should have thanked “Idol” during her Oscar speech…

What’s in her Coke cup? Sugar-free Red Bull or Diet Coke…

Remember last season’s comment about the moth and the melon ball that got the rumor mill stirring again? Paula says that Simon said to her during a performance, “Try to be interesting, Paula. Say ‘The moth that finds the melon ball inside the wonton will win.’” That made them laugh hysterically so Ryan asked what was going on. When she tried to repeat it, Simon acted like he didn’t know what she was talking about. Paula was so upset she told Simon later he had to stop since her integrity and reputation were at stake…

Her explanation for her sometimes slurred speech? “That’s the way I speak”…

The infamous satellite interview incident? “They let me know there was a technical difficulty, so I [assumed] I wasn’t on camera. They never frickin’ told me they were continuing to air. The whole thing sucked for me.”

Her reaction to the replacement rumors? “Honest to God, there’s no way Fremantle or FOX would destroy our chemistry”…

Paula: "I've Never Been Drunk"

In the February 16th issue of “Us Weekly,” Paula Abdul says she has never been drunk, nor done recreational drugs in her career. Paula says, “There have been 100 million lies about me. I’m squeaky clean…Being involved in the show causes people to question everything.”

No, Paula, I think it’s your behavior on the show that makes people question everything...

Interesting that Paula would give the interview to the magazine that reported she was being replaced by Courtney Love…

Paula Replaced With Courtney Love?

Paula Abdul replaced with Courtney Love? That was the rumor started Tuesday by "US Weekly"--even before Paula's bizarre behavior on Tuesday night's show.

According to "US," Courtney told them she received a call from "Idol" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe about "sitting in" as a judge on the show. But "US" reports a "source" told them that Lythgoe was "considering having Love 'replace Paula.'"

Lythgoe issued a statement yesterday saying he did not call Love, and was afraid that someone may have "misrepresented" him. Lythgoe added there were no plans to add to or replace any of the judges.

Courtney Love? Are you even serious? Did "US" really think that "Idol" would replace Paula because of her weird behavior with Courtney Love, the queen of weird behavior?

I'll let you write your own jokes on this one...

What Was Up With Paula?

As you've noticed, I've steered clear of the whole "Is Paula doing drugs?" controversy. After all, her loopiness is part of the fun and I've been willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

But last night, which showed the Birmingham auditions, there was definitely something wrong.

Our first indication was when she ran away from the table during the first audition. She had sat through numerous contestants doing the same thing. Why was that one any different? Then, she called Bernard's performance "off-key"--which it was not. And what about her giddy freakout when Chris sang "A Kiss From a Rose." I know Paula probably likes that song since Constantine did it, and it was good, but it did not deserve that strange outpouring of enthusiasm.

I know that Ryan's voiceover said that Paula had a family commitment in Hollywood that made her miss day two, but I have to wonder if maybe something else was going on...
