Helmet Has Been Found!

I am traveling now but details will follow!

It's Sunday...

The helmet is still hiding! I would love to go check on it but I won't make that mistake a second time! Besides, after the number of phone calls I received yesterday, I am afraid some of you may follow me. :-)

Seriously, though, folks I love this contest. It is my favorite promotion each year. That said, I put my cell number out there so if the helmet is found, I will know quickly and thus notify all of you out there hunting. You can't, though, call me. I realize you mean well but I can't answers questions over the phone or give out clues. Last night I was out on a dinner date with another couple and my phone rang five times (once was my brother). Each time I answer as it could be someone who found the prize. Unfortunately it was a someone asking questions or wanting to know if the helmet had been found. I enjoy all of you and THANK YOU for participating but please, please, please no texts or phone calls unless you've found it. There is one of me and 40,000 of you. Imagine how many calls and texts I receive.

I promise that the second I get the call, I will post it here as well as on the front page of HD on-line.

Keep up the hunting. I know there are a few folks close!

Saturday Update!

Still out there but I don't know how much longer! I am curious why folks aren't closer. That's all I can say.

Sidenote: Please do not posts hints or clues on the blog. I will not publish then, correct or incorrect. We have to keep the rules and fairness uniform.

Happy hunting!

MC

P.S. don't forget, if you find it, call me (304-638-9653)! I want to update the blog and notify the office ASAP so others aren't still out there hunting.

Friday update!

I checked on the helmet last night (even though I said I wouldn't). It was after 11:00 p.m. so I felt safe. It is still hiding sound and secure. I won't check it again. I just wanted to be sure it was still secore from the weather.

I think it will be found relatively soon. I've overheard a few comments and I think a few folks at least have the general area narrowed down. We'll see. It's exciting nonetheless.

Good luck!

Thursday and still hiding!

Headaches anyone?

We're getting there but it "ain't" gonna be easy. We're talking about four chairback seats, WVU tickets, parking and cool grand here! You didn't really think I was going to give you chump clues for prizes like that did you?

C'mon! Bang your noggin a little. These clues are tough.

FYI, I'm having as much fun as you folks!

MC

P.S. no calling my cell or texting please. I cannot and will not help. A few have tried e-mailing me as well. I can assure you, I will give nothing away. We work hard to maintain the purity and fairness of these contests.

Wednesday Update!

Oh my things are starting to heat up! Although I would be surprised if anyone found the helmet within the next day or two, I have been taken aback a bit at how well a few have gotten close with the clues. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go this weekend, though. We’ll see.

I don’t normally give advice on-line but I am going to break that rule. Don’t miss a clue this week. You’ll need them all. In my best Forrest Gump voice... "That's all I got to say about that."

Anyway, it’s still out there. Keep in mind, if you find it CALL MY CELL so I can update folks as quickly as possible. You avid hunters already have it (please don’t text me) but for those who don’t… (304-638-9653).

As a side note, we haven’t said much about it but just for fun, I did have our entire football coaching staff autograph the helmet this year. I thought it would make for a nice keepsake.

As I always say, happy hunting!

Don't forget Window World!

So far so good on the contest. I've not again visited the location (and probably won't) but I am 100% certain all is well.

Just a reminder regarding the events at Window World in St. Albans the next two weeks. As a sponsor, they are getting involved! Kudos to them for really stepping up to the plate.

* On Aug, 5, 8, 12 and 15 patrons of the store who actually go in the store and request, can receive bonus clues for the contest. YOU MUST VISIT THE STORE TO RECEIVE THE CLUE!

* All four days you may also register for a Nintendo Wii giveaway. Drawing to coincide with our contest culmination on the 18th!

* On the 5th, they will kick off the first bonus clues with a party and prizes. Representatives from both Window World and The HD will be there!

I hope your all having fun but rest assured, it's about to get exciting!

Hunt for the Herd, 2008 edition

What do ya mean, "Are we doing it again"? Not only are we, we’re doing it better!

Last summer, The Herald-Dispatch orchestrated its most popular sales promotion for 2007. More than 10,000 additional copies were sold to super sleuths and subscribers searching for a hidden Marshall University football helmet. Thanks to our partners Marshall University and ISP Sports, the lucky finder winner received a prize package that included spending cash, 2007 season tickets to Marshall Football and a parking spot.

So what’s different about 2008?

We’re hiding a helmet. You’re going to have to find it. Starting Monday, July 28, we’ll hide the clues in the Classifieds section of The Herald-Dispatch. None of that has changed. We’ve added a partner this year, though. Window World of St. Albans has helped us put together a prize package that might even draw the interest of the fans from the school up north!

The 2008 Hunt-for-the-Herd Prize Package!

  • Four chairback tickets to each of Marshall’s 2008 home football games!
  • Two tickets to the WVU/Marshall game in Morgantown!
  • One stadium parking pass for every home game!
  • The helmet has been autographed by the 2008 coaching staff!
  • $1,000 in cold, hard cash!

In addition, on special days Window World will offer bonus clues at their location only.

If all that doesn’t get you excited, you aren’t going to get excited!

I hope to see you all out there this year. Good luck and Happy Hunting!
