'Marvel vs. Capcom 2' heads to XBLA and PSN this summer

Perhaps in my entire college career so far, one of the greatest times I had playing a video game was playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Sega Dreamcast. A couple of friends had unearthed an old Dreamcast, and we decided to battle Mega Man and Spider-Man.

I couldn't tell you how many times the phonetic pronunciation of the term "K.O." was screamed that day ("KOOOOOOO!"). Great stuff.

The game will be out this summer for XBLA and PSN. Excellent news for the 2D fighters? It is, indeed. I'm just excited to have Iron Man shoot Zangief with an enormous proton cannon.

Here's a video for all you lonely hearts out there.

New this week: Lost & Damned Street Fighters edition

It's finally here: February's equivalent to Christmas. No, not Valentine's Day. Nobody cares about that. I mean the week where they finally release one of the only games that I'll spend a substantial chunk of my paycheck on.

Street Fighter IV, 360/PS3 (02/17) - I'm not sure how many hours in my lifetime I've spent playing any game with the Street Fighter moniker attached. The number is probably embarrassing. Honestly, Capcom needs to stop taking my money, though. They keep producing excellent work. With Mega Man 9 already in the can and with Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5 and Bionic Commando all coming out soon, where's all this money supposed to be coming from? Street Fighter IV looks like an excellent addition to the franchise and I am nothing short of excited to get my hands on it. Here's the trailer, but please excuse the terribly written dialogue.

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, XBLA (02/17) - This is the first of two Xbox 360 exclusive expansions for GTAIV. You play a biker in a gang and you get more music and achievements. This is excellent news for those who rushed in to finish that game after it initially came out.

Street Fighter HD Is the Best...Around

Thanks to the good gents at Joystiq, I found yet another wonderful homage to an '80s film as represented in video games. Surprisingly, this one comes from the latest Street Fighter title, Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Wait until about 40 seconds in and it'll become pretty clear.

I loves me some Joe Esposito. Montage songs don't get better than "You're the Best," The Karate Kid classic. What's next, gaming industry? Mega Man fights Galaxy Man to "Flashdance (What a Feelin')?"

New Screenshots from "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix"

There was a time in my life (last year) where I would play Super Street Fighter II while I was on the phone with one of my friends. Over time, if my answers became shorter and if I started taking longer pauses between sentences, one friend would ask, "Are you playing Street Fighter again?"

I love Super Street Fighter II Turbo. It's just as good as the original, but there are more characters to humiliate by pinning them into a corner with some hundred hand slap action. Sometime this fall, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (and I think six or seven more words) is coming to the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade. Here's a screenshot to give you an idea of how awesome the graphics are.

Click on the image to see the full range of detail. That's Balrog, an American boxer, fighting Dee Jay, a Jamaican kick boxer. Spoiler alert, Balrog wins. They're exciting, these HD remixes. They take the games from your childhood and make them just slightly more perfect. I wonder how shimmery Ken's hair will be?

Become a Street Fightin' Man...in February

What? A Rolling Stones reference this early in the day? I guess I'm feeling sassy.

As of now Street Fighter IV is set to be released on February 3 of next year. However, you can pre-order it on Amazon right now. They even included the cool teaser art that I included above (thanks Amazon). The price is the standard $59.99 and the page I've linked to is for the 360 version, but the PS3 version is also available.

If you hadn't noticed, I'm pretty excited about this game. Maybe I'll even pre-order it (eventually...I do have plenty of time, after all).

Street Fighter to Hit PS3, 360, and PC (and not the Wii)

A new video game store opened in Chicago that exclusively sells retro video games. In the store, they have a SNES set up where you can play Street Fighter II. My roommate and I played it - I chose E. Honda and he chose Ryu. Now if Tyler would've let loose a solid Hadouken, I would've been pretty easily defeated. However, I managed to pin him into a corner with my hundred-hand slap. Thus, I won. That's why I'm excited about the release of Street Fighter IV.

Street Fighter IV will be released for the PS3, 360, and PC (and not the Wii). No release date has been set, but I'm pretty excited about the game. Here are some facts about it that I found from our friend, Wikipedia (who quoted other sources which I looked at and confirmed, so don't judge me).

1 - The game's story arc takes place between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III.
2 - This game includes all of the original characters from Street Fighter II, as well as Akuma, Dan, and Fei Long.
3 - There are three confirmed new characters. Crimson Viper is some strange spy character from the States, El Fuerte is a luchador from Mexico, and Abel is a French martial artist.
4 - I'm excited.
