Funny Bone Microphone

In this quick illustration for the Funny Bone Comedy Club, the reference was taken directly from the club logo.
It was most important to get a good laughing face and make the body gesture match it. The texture on the microphone was added
last and I’ll show a little of how it was done.
I googled “metal mesh” and came up with several image files, pic
ked one that I liked (in decent resolution and quality and opened the file in PhotoShop.
After digitizing my illustration, I made room on my pasteboard to place the mesh file (at the same angle and size of the microphone.) Using the “warp” tool, I molded it to match the contours of the mike. Once satisfied, I simply used the “clone stamp” set on “darken” and at about 20% or so, and just placed the mesh texture where I wanted. Voila!
