Random Graffiti and Lack of Enforcement Continues to Frustrate Citizens

Local community advocate, James Kompanek, who is a participant in the Create Huntington organization, wrote us to say, "There are a lot of people out there who are very frustrated with the zero enforcement policy of the city in regards to graffiti, dilapidated buildings, and litter." He went on to say that graffiti vandalism is increasing in several neighborhoods, and he sent these photos of structures damaged by these anti-social acts of destruction. Alleys appear to be prime targets, as they are poorly lighted, unsecured and provide a means of cover.

Property values in all areas of Huntington continue to be dramatically affected by continued defacement of structures. The vandals responsible must be pursued and prosecuted, if our city is to present a welcoming appearance to potential residents and business owners. The defacement of residential and commercial property is endemic in our town; law enforcement and city governmental efforts to pursue perpetrators and bring them to justice must be a top priority, if our city is to thrive! Other cities have effectively eliminated graffiti - why can't we?
