MU sked offers a bit of everything

So how does Marshall’s 2007 schedule size up Thundering Herd fans? September is much more balanced compared to last year, but the Sept. 22 game at Cincinnati begins a three-game road stretch. Marshall gets five opponents with first-year coaches and four of the final six games are at Edwards Stadium. Overall, this is another tough schedule but a bowl bid is realistic. Of course we’ll all have a better idea following spring practice. Again, what are your thoughts on the schedule and how about spring drills? There was some solid spring practice back-and-forth on the previous blog and I’d like to continue it here. Thanks.

What's the No. 1 offseason question?

Hey everybody. Starting a new blog here because the previous one is getting clogged up. The most previous question asked about Darius Passmore’s eligibility and Brian Anderson’s shot at playing this season. Passmore has two seasons of eligibility and as for Anderson, he’s a personal favorite of mine. Marshall fans have legit reasons to be excited about incoming true freshmen Chris Smith and Mark Cann, but I include Anderson right in the mix. He comes from a quarterback factory and showed all of the tools during practice last season. Yes, he has a good amount of work to do in the weight room, but Anderson has a shot. What are your other offseason questions Herd fans? I’d be more than happy to continue in a back-and-forth while we endure the most mind-numbing weeks of the sports calendar,

The one that got away

There’s a lot for Marshall fans to feel good about with Wednesday’s recruiting class. Both sides of the line were bolstered (a lot) with the additions of blockers such as Branden Curry and C.J. Wood and defensive linemen such as Montel Glasco and Vinny Curry. How about the one that got away, though? Marshall closed on virtually every top prospect it pursued, but Randy Kellman was the exception. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive end from Celebration High School (Fla.) appeared a lock for the Herd, but signed with Iowa State following an 11th hour visit.

Signing day surprises

Signing day is just hours away and there must be some back-slapping going on in the Shewey Building. Marshall closed on nearly every one of its most sought-after prospects, a rarity in the odd world of college football recruiting. Expect a couple of surprises on Wednesday when a pair of big-time linemen (one on offense, another on defense) are expected to don Marshall hats during their National Signing Day press conferences. Please check with this blog and for updates at www.herald-dispatch.com throughout Wednesday for updates.
