Camp season exceeding expectations

After being absent from the football camp game for several years, Marshall conducted three during June. Expectations were modest, but more than 200 campers turned out for last weekend's pair of sessions. Sunday's advanced camp was particularly impressive. Frankly, I was thinking, 'Eh, for a first-year camp it might attract 50-60 campers and of those, maybe a dozen will be legit Division I-A prospects.' Instead, 127 turned out, including dozens of quality prospects. Ted Ginn's Bus Tour alone delivered approximately 50 student-athletes for northern Ohio.

Edwards Stadium makes for a fine camp ground

Last weekend kicked off an important era in Marshall football coach Mark Snyder's tenure. Snyder and his coaching staff conducted the first of three football camps, which will bring more than 300 prep students to Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Last Sunday's advanced camp featured 127 high school upperclassmen, including numerous top prospects. Ohio was well-represented, led by South Point quarterback Chris Smith.

Tube talk

The game remains three months away, but it's impossible to avoid talk of the upcoming Marshall-WVU game. Here's the rub, however. Instead of kicking around Marshall's quarterback situation and whether or not the Herd can expose a revamped Mountaineer secondary, the talk is all about television.
It's well-reported that ESPN is interested in moving the game from Sept. 2 to the following day for a national telecast. What are your thoughts? Feel free to fire back.
